Salento Pignata in Terracotta

“The clay pot for slow cooking, just like the old days.”

Made in Cutrofiano, in the province of Lecce, to cook beans, soups and stews keeping the flavours intact.

Made in Cutrofiano Lead-free Stove and oven

If you are looking for an authentic terracotta pignata, just like the ones of the old days, you are in the right place. In Cutrofiano, in the province of Lecce, the craft of terracotta and majolica is a tradition dating back to 1650, handed down from generation to generation. It is made by Ceramiche Colì in Cutrofiano, a producer certified ISO 14001 for environmental management.

Terracotta is the material of long, gentle cooking: it cooks naturally and evenly and keeps the original flavours of the ingredients intact. This pignata is an elegant tureen for traditional dishes — soups, beans, stewed meat, salt cod and vegetables — and brings a timeless beauty to the table.

⚠️ Important, the first time only: before using it, leave the pignata to soak in water for 12 hours. This is what gives it a long life.

Before using it

How to look after a terracotta pignata

1
The first soak
Only before the first use: 12 hours in water.
2
No sudden temperature changes
Avoid thermal shock: that is how the terracotta is preserved.
3
Crackles in the glaze are normal
Crackling of the glaze is a feature of terracotta and does not affect its use.
4
Dishwasher safe
It can also go in the dishwasher: the glazes were chosen to last, and they are lead-free.
